Sharma slams ton as India piles on the runs

A WONDERFUL hundred from Rohit Sharma put India in the box seat to do the expected and beat Bangladesh in the quarter-final at the MCG.

Opener Sharma bounced back in the latter overs of his team's innings to score a breathtaking 137 from 126 balls, with India posting 6-302 from its 50 overs.

India was earlier under the pump when Ajinkya Rahane fell in the 28th over, with the favourites 3-115.

Sharma appeared to be out to a legitimate delivery from Rubel Hossain in the 40th over after pulling it straight to the fielder at mid-wicket, but it was controversially called a waist-high no-ball.

After a tidy start from the Bangladesh bowlers, Suresh Raina (65 off 57 balls) also made his opponents pay in the latter overs of the Indian innings.

A brief rain delay in the 40th over, when India was 3-186, only assisted the reigning champions, scoring 97 runs in the final 10 overs.

Bangladesh opening quick Taskin Ahmed (3-69) started tidily, before the wheels fell off for his team as the innings went on.
