THE Bureau of Meteorology has warned damaging winds and large hail could hit areas of the Darling Downs including Warwick over the next several hours.

A severe thunderstorm warning was issued about 4.14pm this afternoon as thunderstorms develop across inland areas in south-east Queensland.

Multiple locations could be hit by the wild weather, including Stanthorpe, Toowoomba, Dalby and Boonah.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services has advised residents to move their cars under cover, secure loose outdoor items, seek shelter and beware fallen trees and powerlines.
