See the cutest cattle judges in the ring
MOST young boys would ask for the latest Playstation or Xbox for their birthdays, but Lachlan and Riley Bacon have other interests.
"Some friends had a hereford stud and they gave me a heifer for my birthday,” 13-year-old Lachlan said.
"That's what got me into the stud cattle.”
The brothers competed in the Stanthorpe show's young judges contest on Saturday.
The children were judging the cows potential to be a breeder in the future.
There were age categories for under 12s, 12 - 15 and 16 - 25 year, with both boys placing in their age groups.
The pair had so much knowledge on what makes the perfect heifer, it would be easy to believe someone had just shrunk some of the adult judges.
Riley, 10, said they had gone to hereford camps to learn about the cattle.
He said they were taught them about judging talks at the camps.
"They teach you stuff and do practise judging,” he said.
Just like his older brother, Riley was much more interested in spending time with cows than computers.
"My brother got the cows and then I just thought I might have wanted some,” he said.
The brothers grew up on a farm surrounded by cattle but now have up to 30 head.
The pair have competed in the young judges contest for three years in a row.
"I've been doing it for longer,” Lachlan said.
"But not with our own cattle.
"We used to lead for other people, but now we do our own.”
The brothers both have plans to keep judging the cattle and potentially make a career out of it.
