Second try for the ALP

THE Australian Labor Party has endorsed its new candidate for the seat of Southern Downs.

Suzanne Kidman will now contest the position after former candidate Peter Watson was forced to withdraw after his controversial ideology was revealed.

A spokeswoman for the ALP said Ms Kidman was a former Southern Downs resident.

"She was raised in Pittsworth on the Darling Downs where her parents owned a grain and sheep farm," she said.

"She was educated at the local country state school and then attended boarding school at Fairholme College in Toowoomba."

She said Ms Kidman worked in the promotions department for wine growers in Stanthorpe and held numerous roles within Education Queensland.

"She went on to work on juvenile crime prevention whole-of-government strategy for the Queensland Government," the ALP spokeswoman said.

Now retired, Ms Kidman lives in Brisbane and volunteers with a student exchange program.
