Scouts work to clean up park
GLENNIE Heights joey scouts last week rolled up their sleeves to do their bit for Clean Up Australia Day.
Yesterday was the official event but schools and community organisations got in a little earlier.
Last Wednesday evening a horde of joeys, leaders, scouts and parents picked up their rubbish bags and scoured Queens Park for rubbish.
Group leader Esther Osborne said the children had a great time.
"We all met at Queens Park, near the skate bowl, then walked along the river, around the football fields, past the soccer fields picking up rubbish along the way and ending up back where we started.
"Some of the joeys were dragging their bags as they were too heavy to carry and also taking turns with each other to carry or drag their rubbish bags."
The hardworking crew ended the walk with a hotdog, cold drink of water and a well-earned play.
Mrs Osborne said the hard work of the joeys will be rewarded in true scouts' style.
"By helping Clean Up Australia, this goes towards part of their environment badge," she said.
The joeys meet at Glennie Heights Scout Den, Matthew Rd, on Wednesday nights from 6pm-7pm.
