Neurosurgeon one step closer

School rallies to bring neurosurgeon to region for Brayd

ST MARY'S College student Noah Shepherdson has rallied his school together to raise money for a campaign led by the family and friends of boxer Brayd Smith who died earlier this year.

The funds raised will go towards bringing a neurosurgeon to Toowoomba.

The Year 7 student approached his teacher last month and asked if he could host a fundraiser to help their campaign.

Noah said he was happy to be supporting a worthy cause.

"I used to do boxing with Brayd and I wanted to do something to help his family," Noah said.

"When I heard they wanted to bring a neurosurgeon to Toowoomba, I thought of the idea of a free-dress day and raffle.

"I coincidently had orange raffle tickets at home so I went around selling them and bought a tub of lollies as a prize," he said.

The free-dress day and raffle raised more than $650 for the campaign and Brayd's brother Tanner Smith said it would be a huge help.

"The boys have done an excellent job and we can't thank them enough for their generosity. It really shows the community support," Mr Smith said.

"It's truly fantastic. I know Brayd would be loving it," he said.
