RSL and Valleys stride ahead

CRICKET: The weekends’ cricket fixtures saw RSL thrash Souths and Wanderers have a comfortable win over Tenterfield.

Batting first on the CF White Oval, Tenterfield posted a modest total of 142.

Adam Genninges top scored with 40 and Danny Potter smacked a quick 27 at the end of the innings. It could have been much worse for Tenterfield, but they were aided by 8 dropped catches and 27 wides. Wanderers bowlers shared the wickets around.

In reply Wanderers never looked too troubled, passing the target in the 33rd over with the loss of just 3 wickets. Jamie Carnell continued his good early season form with an unbeaten 55. Tim Harslett was the next best with 26.

The RSL/Souths encounter turned out to be a very one-sided match.

RSL won the toss and batted. Sam Dowie, also in ominous early season form, made 46. He was well supported by Luke Brady (35) and a staggering 45 wides.

RSL lost 6 wickets in their 40 overs and made a solid 169.

Souths innings never got going and were bundled out for just 47. Sam Dowie took 3-3 and youngster Ryan Hines’ leg spinners are proving a handful with 3-11.

All teams have now played two matches. Valleys and RSL have 2 wins, Wanderers 1, while Souths and Tenterfield are winless.

Next week Wanderers take on Valleys and Souths play Tenterfield.
