Rodeo ‘mission’ worth ride
AFTER a brief hiatus and 12months of planning, the Stanthorpe Rodeo will be back next March.
Stanthorpe newcomers Darran Doughty and Kylie Mochrie made it their mission to resurrect the iconic event when they moved here a year ago.
"We have done everything in our power to get the rodeo up and running," Mr Doughty said.
"Expect some of the best bucking stock in Australia and some of the best riders in the country to be there."
The rodeo will include junior and senior bull rides, junior and senior saddle bronc, junior and senior bareback and junior and senior barrel races, as well as steer wrestling, team roping, breakaway, poddy rides and rope-and-tie events.
Accompanying the rodeo will be a rodeo queen quest.
Girls and women of all ages are encouraged to enter in the senior queen, queen, princess and junior princess categories.
Nomination packs can be collected from Pure Heaven, and coronation dinner tickets for the December 7 event are already on sale for $25 a person.
The last Stanthorpe Rodeo was held in 2010 and March 8, 2014 will be its revival with Spano's Supa IGA coming on board as the major sponsors.
Supporting sponsors include Stanthorpe Wreckers, Neville's Produce, Breakers North and Blue Dog.
The revival of the rodeo was made possible by a $30,000 grant from the Queensland Government Gambling Community Benefit Fund.
