Rodeo misses out on toilet block
THEY’VE been crowned “sloppy” and “disgusting” by Rose City residents but nevertheless draw a crowd at events.
While work for a new toilet block at Leslie Park started this week, the new facility – at the corner of Guy and Fitzroy streets –won’t be ready in time for Warwick Rodeo festivities.
The inadequate toilets at Leslie Park have often caused contention with line-ups and messy facilities during Jumper and Jazz Picnic in the Park and the Rodeo’s street parade and Mardi Gras, but a Southern Downs Regional Council spokeswoman promised all would be in working order next week.
“Council has advised we will try and make do without hire of toilets (at Leslie Park),” the spokeswoman said.
“Council will have staff in the park all day when the markets are on, to keep toilets and the park clean.”
Work on the new toilets will begin late November or early December, weather permitting.
“These new toilets will be in addition to the public toilets already at the park,” the spokeswoman said.
“There will be additional security lighting, pathways and landscaping installed.”
