Rodeo back to spur on festival
FOLLOWING a brief hiatus, the Stanthorpe Rodeo is back with a vengeance - and it has a bumper Rodeo Queen Quest to boot.
Attracting entrants from across the Southern Downs, the quest will be judged and the winner decided upon at a Coronation Dinner on December 7.
The contest will see women of all ages judged in four different categories: senior queen, queen, princess and junior princess.
The lucky winners will play a major role in the local rodeo, scheduled for Saturday, March 8, during the town's ever-popular Apple and Grape Harvest Festival weekend.
Organisers have been busy planning for 12 months to see the beloved rodeo tradition return to Stanthorpe.
Stanthorpe newcomers Darren Doughty and Kylie Mochrie have led the mission.
With revamped rodeo yards unveiled earlier this month, Mr Doughty said the event was going to be something special.
"We have done everything in our power to get the rodeo up and running," he said.
"Expect some of the best bucking stock in Australia and some of the best riders in the country will be there."
The event will feature bull rides, steer wrestling, team roping, breakaway and poddy rides, plus much more.
The Stanthorpe Rodeo was last held in 2010.
- The Rodeo Coronation Dinner will be held at 6.30pm on December 7, at the Exhibition Centre. Cost is $25 for a three-course meal. Get your ticket before November 30 from Pure Heaven.
