Rocky mum-to-be goes on drunken rampage because of baby

KELLY Arnold went on a drunken rampage all because she didn't want the baby inside her.

On Friday night, the Rockhampton woman drank one vodka case, two bottles of Passion Pop and then tried to attack a paramedic officer with a broken champagne bottle.

It was her way of crying out that she didn't want the baby she carried, a Rockhampton court heard yesterday.

While the paramedic was treating a patient, a drunk Arnold allegedly tried to attack the officer with the broken champagne bottle.

She then turned the broken, jagged bottle onto herself.

That's what was heard yesterday in Rockhampton Magistrates Court when Arnold, 22, applied for bail after she seriously tried to assault an ambulance officer and two Rockhampton policemen.

She faces three charges of serious assault.

The court heard at 10pm on Friday Queensland Ambulance Service responded to an emergency 000 call in George St.

Police Prosecutor Senior Constable Shaun Janes said before the paramedic officer reached the patient, Arnold, who was about 15m from the officer, chased him.

Snr Const Janes said at one point the paramedic jumped a fence to try to get away from Arnold.

The Rockhampton woman got within two metres of the paramedic at one stage during the chase.

Other ambulance officers allegedly restrained and then sedated Arnold while police were on their way.

When officers arrived she was put into an ambulance, where police officers tried to restrain her but she continued to resist.

She allegedly then spat at two police officers.

Duty solicitor Katina Perren told the court her client had found out she was pregnant and went into a state of depression.

Ms Perren told the court Arnold didn't want the baby because "I can barely look after myself, let alone a child".

It was heard she couldn't remember the night's events.

Magistrate Barry Cosgrove refused Arnold bail. She will reappear in court on August 22.
