Robin Williams: His greatest moments gave us all a laugh
TO a whole generation Robin Williams is the face of comedy.
He made his screen break-through in the TV sitcom Mork and Mindy and went on to star in a run of hit movies in the 1980s and 1990s that capitalised on mad-cap, zany style, from Good Morning Vietnam and Dead Poets Society to Aladdin and Mrs Doubtfire.
But he was as a gifted dramatic performer as he was a comedian.
He won an Oscar for Good Will Hunting and brought a chill to the screen playing a serial killer in the Christopher Nolan thriller Insomnia.
Robin Williams' wife Susan Schneider told about the sudden and tragic loss of her husband through a brief statement.
"This morning, I lost my husband and my best friend, while the world lost one of its most beloved artists and beautiful human beings. I am utterly heartbroken," she said.
The Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Mara Buxbaum said the death is still to be investigated, with toxicology tests to come.
"This is a tragic and sudden loss," she said.
