Riding high on hosting first big profile rodeo
RODEO: With contestants sorted and a major sponsor lined up, Stanthorpe’s impending National Rodeo Association final is gearing up nicely.
It’ll be the first time the town has hosted such a high profile rodeo event, but Paula Boatfield from the organising subcommittee says it’s shaping up to be a successful first foray.
“We’ve secured a major sponsor for the rodeo and that is Buffalo Bills Western Store out of Warwick,” Mrs Boatfield said.
“They’ve supported our rodeo events in the past and they were quite keen to come on board for this rodeo finals event.”
She said they’ve also secured five out of six shoot sponsors as well.
There’s 14 events across the day on Saturday, November 16, with 12 competitors in every one.
“It’s going to be quite a big night. Gates open at 3pm and the rodeo will start at 5pm with the grand entry,” Mrs Boatfield said.
“We have Nine Year Sister singing the national anthem live. The event will go through to about 9.30-10pm I’d say.”
More sponsors are needed for 12 of the 14 events.
The final itself is the second of three across Queensland. The first and third events will be held in Maryborough and Caboolture.
“Going forward we have the opportunity to host this event every year. This is the initial one, the test case, and we want to see if the community supports it so we can continue.
“We think it’s a great thing for our committee and community to get this event and we think having a major rodeo event in the beginning of the year and one in the latter half of the year is a good balance.
“We are expecting maybe one to two thousand people.”
Tickets are available now on trybooking.com and there is camping available.
Despite the drought, Mrs Boatfield said they won’t have any issues attracting the livestock.
“The livestock and bucking stock is provided by a contractor so it’s not up to us to find that stock.”
Mrs Boatfield ensures a fun day for all ages with a bucking bull and jumping castle for the kids and Stockman’s bar and canteen as well as stall holders for the big kids.
