Rep cricket games washed out
THE Mitchell and Davis Shield games between Warwick and Central Downs were washed out at the weekend, taking the tally to 19 senior cricket washouts before Christmas.
Warwick cricketers have now missed 15 club games and four representative games in the first half of the season due to the weather.
The rain also results in a difficult financial situation for the Warwick Cricket Association as teams are not required to pay ground fees for matches that do not commence.
Nine junior club games have also been called off due to the weather for the three weekends leading up to Christmas.
According to Warwick Cricket Association records from the past 20 years, this is the most games of cricket lost in the first half of a season.
Warwick cricketers will now have the next two weekends off as part of their mid-season break.
The lack of cricket games could result in the Warwick Cricket Association end-of-season award winners having some of the lowest aggregates ever for wickets taken and runs scored.
Warwick club fixtures resume on Saturday January 8 next year.
