Reports of armed man puts Coast school on alert

BREAKING: Parts of a Sunshine Coast school were put in lock down as police hunted a reportedly-armed fugitive seen near the school grounds.

A member of the pubic had contacted police after seeing a man they believe was armed.

"A member of the public thinks he may have been armed," a QPS spokesman said.

Police launched a man hunt about 10.15am after the man was spotted near Eleonera St, Currumundi.

The report forced police to put Currumindi Special School on alert, according to a member of staff.

That staff member told the Sunshine Coast Daily that students were moved back inside school grounds from a park at which they were gathered, as a safety precaution.

Police have called off the search. It's believed the man may have left the area in a car.
