Renae Ingles in new-look Diamonds netball squad

FORMER Diamond Renae Ingles is back in an Australian squad boasting three new faces but minus netball fan favourite Sharni Layton.

Ingles, the mother of twin two-year-olds and wife of NBA star Joe Ingles, has made her first national squad since late 2015 after coming out of retirement to play with the Melbourne Vixens in Super Netball this year.

Giants midcourter Jamie Lee Price, the daughter of rugby league star Steve Price, has made the Diamonds squad for the first time with Swifts defender Sarah Klau and Fever young gun Jessica Anstiss also getting a call-up to the 17-strong squad.

Missing are the three Diamonds stars - Laura Geitz, Susan Pettitt and Madi Robertson - who announced their retirement from international duties last week and defender Layton.

Layton, who opened up about her "mental health injury'' in March, has been playing strongly for the Vixens in Super Netball after missing Commonwealth Games selection.

However, it is understood she opted out of selection for "personal reasons.''

The squad was revealed on Sunday at half-time of the Giants/Firebirds match by Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander.

While losing three of its starting seven from the Commonwealth Games, there is still plenty of experience in the squad headed by captain and Lightning shooter Caitlin Bassett.

Australian coach Lisa Alexander has the option of adding another five players to her squad after the Super Netball playoffs.

Alexander last week said she wanted to see how players stood up to the pressure of finals netball which is behind her decision to keep spots open in the squad.

At the end of Super Netball, Alexander will select teams for the upcoming Quad series, which is fought out annually between Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and Commonwealth Games champions England, and the Constellation Cup with New Zealand in October.

The Quad series will see Australia play England at Newcastle on September 19 - the first time they have met since England beat Australia by one for the Commonwealth Games gold.

THE SQUAD: Caitlin Bassett, Tegan Philip, Caitlin Thwaites, Gretel Tippett, Stephanie Wood, Jessica Anstiss, Renae Ingles, Kate Moloney, Jamie-Lee Price, Kim Ravaillion, Gabi Simpson, Liz Watson, April Brandley, Courtney Bruce, Sarah Klau, Emily Mannix, Jo Weston.
