Region a winner in Trivago reviews

THE Granite Belt has a lot to boast about.

Between the award-winning wineries and the beautiful scenery, that's not difficult to prove.

But the region's reputation has been backed up on the accommodation front, with Stanthorpe claiming one of the top sports in the state - and the country - in the Trivago Awards 2017.

The awards, which celebrate a region's ranking based on positive reviews collated by metasearch site Trivago, have placed Stanthorpe third in Queensland, and seventh in the state, for accommodation destinations.

This was trumped by first-place title holder of Stanley, Tasmania on the national level, and Montville and North Tamborine across the state.

Meanwhile, Stanthorpe's Happy Valley Retreat claimed fourth place among the Darling Downs' accommodation offerings.

Trivago media relations officer Samantha Hendricks said the towns' rankings were calculated from an average index, based on more than 1000 reviews in total from 12 or more providers in each destination.

She said Stanthorpe's score of 86.53, just a few points below the country's top scorer, Stanley, at 88.64, was an impressive achievement.

"I think it's an excellent achievement for the whole town,” she said.

Happy Valley Retreat co-owner Dee Davenport said she and husband Geoff worked hard to ensure every visitor left with fond memories of the region.

She said the digital age of online reviews has piqued the importance of leaving a good impression.

"It's great to see we're getting good reviews,” she said.

"We're always confident when people come and stay with us that they're going to have a good time.”

Stanthorpe and Granite Belt Chamber of Commerce John Bylicki said the win would likely prove a boost to the region, as many people now planned trips based on customer reviews.

"It's obviously going to have a flow-on effect,” he said.
