Records fall at annual state swimming event
SWIMMING: Some long-standing records have been obliterated as Stanthorpe's new generation of swimmers continue to impress in the pool.
Stanthorpe State High School held their annual swimming carnival on Friday with Aliesha Rogers and Ben Armbruster the stand-out record breakers.
State high sports teacher Damian Petrie said it was one of the best carnivals they've enjoyed for some time.
"I don't know the exact figures but the participation was as high as we've seen.”
The students continue to best their older counterparts in the pool with the youngsters once again claiming the win in the teachers versus students race.
"The teachers had a few years of success but Ben Armbruster's brought a change to that. The teacher's are trying to find their winning form again.
"All the novelty events were great. The tyre-tube race is always heaps of fun and the kids had a heap of fun.”
Aliesha Rogers broke three records on the day, Hannah McMeniman broke one and Ben Armbruster smashed five.
Armbruster was also in the Finch open boys freestyle relay team along with Ed Filmer, Sam Gibbons and Dan McMeniman that beat a decades old record.
"That record had stood since like 1984 I think too,” Petrie said.
