Rain postpones Clifton fly-in

TWO inches of water yesterday lay on the tarmac of Clifton Airfield leaving organisers of this weekend's Darling Downs Sport Aircraft Association's annual fly-in with no choice other than to postpone the event.

Organiser Trevor Bange said he was disappointed to cancel the event.

The event won't be rescheduled this year but will run again next year on March 9 and 10.

It's the first time the aviation highlight has been cancelled since it first started in 1982.

"We've had a good run," Mr Bange said.

"We have to take the good with the bad I suppose."

Mr Bange said while he'll be able to fly himself, with all the visiting aircraft, too much demand on the strip had the potential of causing too much damage.

The club is offering youth aged 15 to 21 who are looking at aviation as a career, sport or hobby the chance to snag a flying training scholarship, valued at more than $5500.

Anyone interested can contact Trevor Bange on 0429 378 370 or visit loneeagleflyingschool.org.au.
