Racer Adam is the real dealer
HE is a Toyota dealer from Tasmania but winning was what was on his mind in yesterday's final round of the Aussie Racing Car Series at Morgan Park Raceway.
Adam Gowans competed at the raceway for the first time at the weekend and rated the track technical and exciting.
Like so many in the sport, Gowans is a second-generation driver.
“It is in my blood,” he said. “I started driving karts and was then an armchair critic.”
He had a close battle with V8 Supercars driver Jack Perkins and Kyle Clews for round supremacy at the weekend but isn't aiming to go up to the V8s.
“They are looking for drivers up to 25 years or thereabouts who they can get a good 10 years out of,” Gowans said.
While it is Ford, Holden and Toyota head-to-head in the Aussie Racing Car Series, Gowans acknowledged each car had a similar engine and chassis.
“The body for each make is a caricature of the real cars,” he said. “The grill of my Toyota Aurion is identical to the full-size car.”
The weekend round was won by Perkins with three wins in four races while Clews, of Sydney, won the series from Gowans who blew a motor on the last lap of the last race yesterday.
