Race ace Molli cruises ahead

SHE HAS been a force to be reckoned with on the Morgan Park track for two years, yet Molli Devine is two months away from getting her driver's licence.

The fifteen-year-old School of Total Education student has shown the boys on the circuit she's the one to beat, and this week she earned even more bragging rights.

Molli was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for first place in the Junior Category at the Short Circuit Speed Events Series this year.

She is now recognised as being among the best in Queensland racers and was presented the award by three-time V8 Supercar Championship winner Jamie Whincup.

She said receiving the prize and meeting the racing icon was exciting.

"I haven't met him before and it was really good, and a good thing to brag about," she said.

"He was really nice, because I wasn't really fond of him, but after meeting him I do like him and respect him."

Racing runs in the family for the Devines and Molli said she regularly used older sister Mindi's and her father's cars to practice with.

"I can't go as fast when I practice at home - second gear is probably the fastest," she said.

"I find racing is getting away from anything and relaxing. It's a good hobby.

"There's one other girl who races but she's in another category - the rest are boys, which is funny when I beat them. They don't say much when that happens, a few are a bit funny about it."

Both Matthew Campbell from Warwick and former Warwick resident Gary Bonwick were also recognised at the awards.
