Quest finale takes shape

FOR about 20 years these three Warwick ladies have spent countless hours planning and preparing decorations to turn the show pavilion into a dream venue for our rodeo stars.

This year would-be Queens, Princesses, Cowgirls and Tiny Tots will have a taste of the Golden West as the anxiously wait to find out who will scoop the top prizes.

Wendy Schelbach, Margaret Waltisbuhl and Nancy Gross spent all day yesterday putting finishing touches to the pavilion for tonight’s Golden West cabaret for Warwick Rodeo Queen.

“At present we’ve got around 25 tables booked, so it looks like it will be a big night,” Mrs Gross said yesterday.

And with 33 contestants in this year’s quest, it looks certain to be a tough competition.

There are seven Queens, seven Princess, nine Junior Cowgirl, five Tiny Tot girls and five Tiny Tot boys’ entries this year.

All of who have been working and practising hard to raise money and brush up on their horse skills.

Today competitors will show off their horsemanship before having individual interviews with the judges.

They are judged on things like manners, sincerity, local knowledge, rodeo knowledge, their personal appearance and maturity, as well as their horse and tackle presentation and horsemanship.

Rodeo Princesses and Queens will also be judged on their flag-carrying ability.

Once they’ve done the hard yard, it’s time to go home, scrub up and get ready for the evening ahead.

The coveted Rodeo Queen winner will win a tonne of fantastic prizes, including a hand made silver buckle from Trevor Young and a watch from Prouds Jewellers.

Bob Armitage, from Brigalow Country Clothing, which provided hats, jeans and shirts as prizes, will present the winners tonight along with Show and Rodeo President Neville Fanning, the rodeo chairman and campdraft chairman.

Other prizes include horse feed from Riverina, clothing vouchers for Saddlery 1, as well as much more.

Last year’s Rodeo Queen Jessica Leech will also be on hand to help and pass on the crown.

Tonight’s cabaret dinner starts at 6.30pm.
