Qld Open champion keen to defend title in Ipswich

DEFENDING champion Andrew Dodt hopes to return for this year's Queensland Open in Ipswich from August 20-23.

"Winning the Isuzu Queensland Open in 2014 at the Brookwater Golf & Country Club is definitely a highlight in my career and certainly an achievement I will never forget,'' Dodt said.

"I have always wanted to win my state open and to be able to do it in front of my family and friends was a really proud moment.

"Depending on my 2015 schedule I hope to be able to defend my title later this year.''

Dodt hopes to tackle the testing Brookwater course again after continuing his winning form.

He recently claimed the Thailand Classic on the European Tour.

Sanctioned by the PGA Tour of Australasia, the Queensland Open attracts a strong field.

Along with prizemoney, players also compete for official World Golf Ranking Points.

"It is wonderful to have the Isuzu Queensland Open back on the PGA Tour of Australasia schedule for 2015,'' said Brian Thorburn, CEO of the PGA of Australia which owns and manages the PGA Tour of Australasia.

"Since the tournament's return to our schedule it has become a favourite amongst players and has attracted strong fields evidenced by 2013 champion Nick Cullen going on to win the Aus- tralian Masters and defending champion Andrew Dodt winning his second European Tour title this year.

"Tournaments such as the Isuzu Queensland Open provide important playing opportunities for up and coming professionals and amateurs.''

Naming right sponsor Isuzu will celebrate its 90th year in August.

"To reach 90 years is a terrific milestone and Isuzu is proud to be associated with this achievement,'' said Alan Newcombe, Dealer Principal of Brisbane Isuzu.

It is the third year the Championship will be played at the Greg Norman-designed course, which has ranked as Queensland's official number one and best public access golf course in Golf Digest.
