254 education staff report gastro, cause still unknown

THE source of the food-poisoning outbreak at a school principals' conference in Brisbane has still not been determined and the Department of Health is relying on surveys to be completed by attendees.

A department spokes-woman said yesterday 254 education staff had reported gastro symptoms following the conference, held late last month, including 26 who were hospitalised.

The department has sent questionnaires to everyone who attended to try to pin point the specific dish, or dishes contaminated with salmonella.

"The timeliness of results is dependent upon how quickly attendees return the completed questionnaire," the spokeswoman said.
