Cannabis bust at Gheerulla

WATCH: Public tip off leads Coast cannabis bust

AN INFORMANT has led Sunshine Coast police to a sophisticated drug production set-up and the arrest of a 60-year-old man alleged to have links to bikies.

Sunshine Coast Tactical Crime Squad acting-officer-in-charge Todd Maguire said his team raided an isolated property at Gheerulla, west of Yandina, after a one-off piece of information was received.

Acting Senior Sergeant Maguire said yesterday's haul included 23 mature marijuana plants, a sophisticated hydroponic system, a large generator and $23,000 in cash.

He said the plants had a street value of at least $1000 each.

Officers were investigating whether or not the cash was linked to the man's business interests.

"Basically it had a generator with a water source and fertiliser and it had been attended to by the owner of this property," Act Snr Sgt Maguire said.

The plants were described as very established and of high quality.

"We are definitely alleging that he was selling," he said.

"It's a large amount for personal use."

The man was charged with producing a dangerous drug, possessing a dangerous drug and possessing things used in connection with the commission of a crime.

He is due to front Noosa Magistrates Court on June 15. Officers destroyed the hydroponic equipment but did not remove it from the property, leaving it for the resident to dispose of.

Act Snr Sgt Maguire stressed the importance of tip-offs from the public.

"We rely heavily on the public to give us this information."

He said investigations were ongoing. Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
