Officer bitten during arrest

A CLIFTON police officer was bitten twice on the arm while wrestling with an offender during an arrest at the weekend.

The officer was called to a domestic disturbance at Tedman Rd in Clifton at 7pm on Saturday.

Police said a 22-year-old man stormed into the residence and assaulted his ex-girlfriend's father and her current partner.

The offender also allegedly smashed a house window and a car window. He fled before police arrived.

An officer later found the man at a Morgan St home just after 9pm.

The 37-year-old senior constable wrestled with the offender during the arrest and was bitten twice on the right arm.

The offender's father and a member of the public helped the injured policeman restrain the man.

He was charged with seriously assaulting police, obstructing police, two counts of common assault, entering a dwelling and committing an indictable offence, wilful damage, and breaching a court order.

The officer was treated at hospital and will undergo testing.
