Police are searching for a man in Kawana who evaded police

Search through Warana streets for man who evaded police

UPDATE 4.45PM:

CALM has returned to the streets of Warana after a police chase for a man stretched from the road to backyards. 

A black BMW was towed after its driver dumped the vehicle and fled from police on foot about 2.30pm.

It is still unclear why the man was running, but the incident was sparked when he did not stop for police near Kawana Waters State College. 

Police have ended their immediate hunt, but a police media spokeswoman said officers were aware of who the person was and would follow up through investigations. 

EARLIER:

THE dog squad is searching for a man who sparked a police search after failing to stop for officers in a Kawana school zone.

A Police Media spokesman said officers indicated for the male driver to pull over on Nicklin Way near Kawana Waters State College about 2.30pm. The vehicle failed to stop and the driver later ditched his car.

The spokesman said the incident was not a pursuit, but there were several crews looking for the man and tracking his location, which has been last sighted as the Oceanic Dr area at Warana.

The driver ran several red lights, before dumping his vehicle at Narambi St, Warana and continuing on foot
