Police charge man with murder of Sarah Cafferkey

THE man accused of murdering a 22-year-old Melbourne woman has been remanded in custody after a brief court appearance on Wednesday.

Steven Hunter, 47, was charged with Sarah Cafferkey's murder on Tuesday night.

He fronted at an out-of-sessions court hearing on Tuesday night before appearing briefly before the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday morning.

The magistrate set a committal mention date of next March.

It is alleged Hunter, who was arrested in Hawthorn on Tuesday, stabbed Ms Cafferkey at his Bacchus Marsh home on November 10.

Ms Cafferkey had been missing for almost two weeks before her body was discovered in a wheelie bin outside a Point Cook house on the weekend.
