Plane helps crews fight fire near winery
NINE fire crews and a spotter plane were needed to help contain a large grass fire which broke out at Hidden Creek Winery on Eukey Rd early yesterday afternoon.
Stanthorpe urban fire crews, along with rural firefighters from Mt Marlay and Ballandean, were called in to fight the blaze, which broke out at 1pm.
A Department of Community Safety spokesman said the fire started in the vineyard and was moving west towards Katalina National Park.
"At one stage it threatened a structure but firefighters were able to save it," the spokesman said yesterday.
"Firefighters are conducting back-burning exercises to help contain the blaze.
"A spotter plane has also been called in from Archerfield to help the crews map the behaviour of the fire."
It is expected to take a number of days for firefighters to extinguish the blaze.
