Pisasale sends letter to Obama with invite for talks

US PRESIDENT Barack Obama has got mail.

The writer of the letter is none other than Ipswich mayor Paul Pisasale, who has invited Mr Obama to share some time with him on Saturday when the US President is expected to touch down at RAAF Base Amberley on his way to the G20 Summit.

In the letter, dated November 10, 2014, Cr Pisasale explains where Ipswich is located geographically before outlining how far the city has come in the past 20 years.

"Ipswich has undertaken a remarkable transformation from a city with industry closures, high unemployment and low population growth," Cr Pisasale writes.

"Since being elected to council in 1991, and then as mayor in 2004, I've worked closely with business, community groups and residents to build pride in the city."

Cr Pisasale describes the economic development in the city that has led to "4.9% population growth, two master-planned residential communities winning international awards, 14 industrial estates attracting major industry and generating local employment and multiple environmental awards".

Cr Pisasale then tells Mr Obama about how Ipswich has balanced the interests of the economy and environment to create a liveable city before issuing an invite to have a chat when he lands.

"As mayor of the city I would welcome the opportunity to meet when you touch down and to quickly discuss what we have been able to achieve in our community," Cr Pisasale says.

"This would be a real honour for the city and the people of Ipswich."
