Picnic races on horizon

READY your fascinators, fedoras and fabulous field fashion because this year's Warwick Picnic Races are creeping up quickly.

As one of Australia's oldest genuine picnic races the event that never fails to impress will celebrate its 118th year on May 12.

Warwick Turf Club president Helen Lewis said the event will have something to offer everyone.

"We expect a great crowd this year, it is a wonderful social occasion and lots of young people working and studying in Brisbane and further afield love coming out to the races," she said.

"This year we are introducing a few silent auctions that will run throughout the day, which are a hoot, letting groups outbid their buddies for fabulous prizes."

Picnic race favourites such as fashions on the field and a sunset sausage sizzle, with Brisbane band Sweet Souls playing into the evening, are planned.

What would one racing carnival be without another to set the mood?

This Saturday the Goondiwindi Picnic Races at Gunsynd Park Racecourse will be back and bigger and better than ever said Goondiwindi Race Club secretary Sarah Short.

"It is a great day out at the races so feel free to bring a plate of food to share as part of the picnic," she said.
