PHOTOS: 2000 roll up for Stanthorpe Race Day
ALL Saturday needed was for home town hope Mail Escort to get the win in the cup for the day to get any better.
Organisers say close to 2000 people streamed through the gates for the weekend's annual race day.
In pristine conditions, punters rolled in to Armstrong Park, with Stanthorpe Jockey Club president Neil Brunckhorst heralding the day a 'perfect success'.
"The way conditions were, if you didn't go to the races on Saturday you'll never go," Mr Brunckhorst said.
"Happy with the crowd, happy with the racing. It was very good racing. Everything went without a hitch.
"Lot of positive comments on the day which is good to hear.
"There was a good atmosphere. Everyone was having a really good time.
"Lunch from the RSL was really good."
Brunckhorst mightn't have backed any winners himself, but there were plenty who did.
The Stephen Kirkwood trained Blaine won race one. Race two was won by Primmiscuos, race three by Positive Spin and race five by De Bandit Vega.
The Stanthorpe Cup Open was claimed by Splitz, followed by Marlahn and home town horse, Mail Escort.
"The trainers and jockeys were very impressed by the facilities. Makes it easier to get them to come back too," Brunckhorst said.
"The club really want to thank the community, who in these hard times, still turned up and supported us."
