P-Plater caught doing 186kmh on Pacific Hwy

A 19-year-old P-plater will appear in court next month charged with driving at almost 100kmh over the speed limit while under the influence of alcohol.

Police pulled over a white Holden Commodore just before 3.30pm on Thursday on the Pacific Hwy at Arrawarra, north of Coffs Harbour.

It will be alleged the car was travelling at a speed of 186kmh in the sign-posted 110kmh zone.

Officers spoke with the 19-year-old male driver, and noted there were three other people inside the car.

The man produced a P1 driver's licence, which carries a top-speed restriction of 90kmh.

Police breath-tested the man, and will allege this produced a positive result.

The Coffs Harbour man was arrested and taken Woolgoolga Police Station, where a breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.019.

He was subsequently issued with a court attendance notice for the offences of P1 driver exceed special speed limit (90km/h) over 45km/h, and novice driver drive whilst novice range PCA.

The man is due to appear in Coffs Harbour Local Court on November 17.

In addition, the man's driver's licence was suspended on the spot for a period of six months.
