Our proud showgirl
STANTHORPE'S 2013 Showgirl Carolyn Spina did her home town proud, when she was named Darling Downs Showgirl runner-up.
Miss Spina said the competition at the weekend saw 15 showgirls attend a formal dinner on Friday night, have a 15-minute talk with the judges on Saturday and an interview on stage.
"I've come back from the experience really proud of this town, the way we hold our show and of the fundraising efforts of our entrants," she said.
"For me, my fundraising was the highlight of my whole experience.
"I didn't expect anything and it was a surprise when they announced my name."
Alexandra Turner from Goondiwindi was named Miss Darling Downs and Narina Schmaling from Crows Nest was voted Miss Popular.
While fulfilling her other duties, Miss Spina also gave a talk to the other showgirls about how she successfully raised more than $20,000.
"I would like to sincerely thank my committee, my family and friends, the Stanthorpe Show Society, the Stanthorpe community, my fellow showgirl entrants from Stanthorpe and the Darling Downs. Your support, generosity, donations and kind words are greatly appreciated, and it has been my pleasure to represent this fantastic town."
