Organisers urge runners to get set for Stampede

SPRING is just around the corner and that means it is time to put on your running or walking shoes and get ready for the Stanthorpe Spring Stampede.

The Stanthorpe State School Parents and Citizen's organisation is holding its inaugural fun run event next month.

Sunday, September 16 is the date to mark on your calendar if you are interested in getting outdoors and enjoying spring with family and friends.

Or perhaps you want to know who in town is the best of the best is when it comes to running.

Runners and walkers have the opportunity to compete or simply enjoy a 5km course around Quart Pot Creek.

The more competitive runners can undertake a more challenging 10km course, commencing with the 5km creek run before running up past the State High School towards bushland around the Scout Den and then back to Stanthorpe State Primary School.

Winners will be rewarded for their efforts with plenty of cash, vouchers, bottles of wine and other prizes donated by local businesses up for grabs.

A special division has been created for children under the age of 14.

The fastest runner in this age group over the 5km course will win a massive 5kg box of chocolate.

The event is suitable for runners and walkers of all ages who are encouraged to register at stanthorpespringstampede.com for either the 5km or 10km events.

Be sure to add your date of birth if you are competing for that massive box of chocolates.

Registrations close September 3 and can not be accepted on the day of the event.

Also at this event you will meet young doctors from Rural Health.

June Brundell, a local doctor based at Stanthorpe Hospital, has invited beginning doctors to join in the fun at the Stampede.

These doctors look forward to taking care of the teddy bears of Stanthorpe, so don't forget to bring the little one's teddy bear so they can have a check-up.

The event hosts appreciate the support of local businesses in the staging of this event.
