Opportunity of a lifetime
SMALL town girl Katelyn Aspery is about to jet off on her first overseas trip, after scoring herself an internship in the Big Apple.
Miss Aspery - a former Killarney girl - is off to New York early next year after being the successful applicant for the once in a lifetime opportunity.
The event management and marketing student will schmooze with industry heavyweights during the seven-week stint working for Press Here Publicity.
She said she was looking forward to getting a taste of the industry in the big city arena.
"I expect to be running around and getting a lot of coffees but I will also be writing press releases and other things," she said.
Waking up before 5am to undergo an interview over the phone was "nerve-wracking" for Miss Aspery but she managed to win the judges over on the spot.
Although she is still studying the industry she loves, Miss Aspery is already racking up experience in her job at Birch Carroll and Coyle at Mt Gravatt.
The ambitious student spends her time on marketing and planning events for the cinema.
As her trip inches closer, Miss Aspery said she was looking forward to exploring the iconic city during her time out of the office.
"I want to go to Central Park and Broadway and really just learn more about the industry," she said.
Miss Aspery said her parents, Les Aspery and Cathy Fairweather, were ecstatic at her internship and big sister Tamara even shed a tear or two.
"Everybody was really happy for me when I told them and Tamara even cried," she said.
Miss Aspery will head to New York on January 15.
