Opals are triumphant in seniors

NETBALL: The Stanthorpe Netball season has reached a conclusion, with the Finches claiming the intermediate title and the Opals triumphant in the seniors grade.

The Finches proved too strong in the intermediate division on Saturday, winning the title in a 26-12 victory over the Hummingbirds.

The Opals were made to work for their win. In a tight contest against the Sapphires, it went down to the wire with the Opals victorious, 31-28.

"We're going to have a break now until we have our rep trials which should be in the early part of next year,” Stanthorpe Netball Association's Kay Knight said.

"It has been a great season. Our numbers have continued to grow - just short of 120 this year.

"Hopefully that will increase next year but we're starting to be a little limited because we don't have a home.

"Despite all that we've had a lot of increased interest in netball around the town which is great.”

She gave thanks to all the players, sponsors, coaches, managers, umpires and parents.

"Special thanks to Karen Petrie and Karen Daveson who have retired from their positions as president and secretary - both ladies have worked tirelessly for our club.”
