Oh Brother, Gympie boys are at it again
IT SEEMS all roads - and lately, TV shows - really do lead to Gympie, with the surprise appearance of former Gympie man Max Walker in Channel 9's Big Brother house on Monday night.
Max, 26, is the best friend of housemate Michael, but grew up in Gympie, attending Central State Primary School and then Gympie High before studying law at the Queensland University of Technology, where he met Michael.
Max's father, well known Gympie identity Jim Walker, said yesterday the two had been best mates ever since, though Max now lived in Melbourne, where he worked as a senior associate for a Supreme Court Judge, specialising in commercial law.
An amused Jim yesterday described his son as someone who thought "laterally" and was always up for something different.
Max spoke to his mother after his brief appearance in the house on Monday night and said he and the other visitors were unaware they were going to be put on the spot until the last minute.
They were each asked by Big Brother to nominate someone in the house for eviction.
Max joins Gympie town planner Jason Newell in bringing a small taste of celebrity to the region.
Jason is a regular on Channel 7's Beauty and the Geek series on Thursday nights.
Max was taken on to the show as part of Big Brother's most recent task for its housemates.
Mates and loved ones of the contestants entered the house but housemates had to ignore them to win the task.
After Michael cast his nomination on Monday night and returned to his seat, Max walked in to the room.
He glanced at Michael, who smiled broadly, but a fellow housemate gave him a nudge and Big Brother told Max:
"Big Brother hopes you are not going to get up to any mischief."
Max said he would do his best.
"For one point I am going to nominate Layla," Max said, explaining the Brit had "disconnected" from some of her friends and spent most of her time and attention with Sam.
Michael looked the other way as Max left. Max's 15 seconds of fame were up.
