No power on water

SOUTHERN Downs Regional Mayor Ron Bellingham has dismissed claims that Warwick community members can now elect to prevent fluoridation in the region's water supply.

The claims come in light of other regional councils lobbying the State Government to prevent the implementation of fluoride in their water systems.

Cr Bellingham said he held no authority over State Government legislative decisions, but he said there was a need to re-evaluate the issue since fluoridation legislation had come into effect more than a year ago.

There was concern Allora and Killarney's growing population may have pushed them into compulsory fluoridation, but the mayor's investigation proved this was not the case.
