Caravan jack-knifes in windy conditions
NO-ONE was hurt in a single vehicle and caravan crash on the Wide Bay Hwy, Goomeri police said yesterday.
A spokesman said four family members, including two small children, were riding in the tow vehicle, a 4WD Mitsubishi twin-cab utility.
The crash occurred about 5km east of Goomeri, when the caravan appeared to have been caught in a strong crosswind, police said.
The caravan began to weave in the windy conditions and jack-knifed, causing the utility to spin off the side of the road. It smashed into an embankment, about 11am, a witness said.
The east-bound lane of the highway was closed while the utility and remains of the caravan were loaded on to a tow truck.
