Next stop: state titles

FOUR Stanthorpe swimmers have done the town proud, competing at the Darling Downs Regional Trials last week.

Brooke O'Brien, Hannah McMeniman, Ben Armbruster and Aliesha Rogers will all go onto compete at a state competition later this year.

Ben and Aliesha have been on the swim team before, however this was the first time for Brooke and Hannah.

The four kids said they were all excited to go on and compete at the state titles.

This will be Ben's seventh competition and Aliesha's fifth.

Brooke and Hannah said they both didn't know what to expect but hope to swim their best.

"It was really good for them to get in,” Stanthorpe Swimming Club president Shannon Armbruster said.

She explained for the kids to make the team they had to place under a qualifying time. She was impressed with how hard the kids had worked.

"It's a good way to be finishing the season on a high like this,” she said.

"They've been working really hard with their training schedules to get into those teams.”

The team will go on to compete at the state titles.

"It's a goal for the kids to make the high school team,” Armbruster said.

"Hopefully it won't be their last.

"They'll go on to train hard now because they know how much effort goes to get into these teams.

"It leads to bigger and better things when you're at that more elite level. You've got the times then to look for regional teams as well.”

All four kids made sure to thank coach Gail Smail.
