New season to kick-off

FOOTBALL: A new season, new hopes, new dreams.

The competition is there for the taking with the outcome of last season gone from the mind.

CF White Oval, Ballandean and International Club play host to the first lot of games across all grades.

It's a big day for the Carlton and United competitive grades, as the two clubs vie for the Angelo Musumeci Memorial Cup.

Inter take on City and Ballandean host Tenterfield.

Football Stanthorpe president Vic Pennisi said it would be good to get back into the swing of things on Saturday.

"It's the usual thing at the start of every year where some clubs don't have as many players as they'd like to but it still all looks positive at this stage," Pennisi said.

"A couple clubs are struggling in a couple age groups. I think it's going to end up a fair competition though.

"As soon as the competition starts we'll see things pick up. Once things kick-off it regenerates the interest."

Mr Pennisi said the committee had been working well in the lead up to the 2019 season but he was still in search of a long-term replacement for the presidency.

"I don't intend to warm the chair for all of the year but the committee is working well together and we're addressing the issues as they come along."

He praised the clubs for their effort to remember important local figures in the game, with the Angelo Musumeci Memorial Cup.

"It's great that those have contributed many hours over time aren't forgotten and I think its great those things happen," he said.

"I'm looking forward to another good season ahead."
