New luxury cabins open at Storm King Dam
SEVEN cabins are now ready for visitors as the Granite Belt's newest luxury accommodation offering, at the edge of Storm King Dam, launches.
Paul and Debbie Banks started building their cabins on Eukey Rd three years ago.
They opened Quaffers on Storm King on April 15, taking guests in the first week of May.
Reviews on TripAdvisor and Booking.com showed people were happy with the fully self-contained cabins, which have a kitchen, access to the dam and a great view.
"They loved it,” Mrs Banks said. "They were quite happy.”
She hoped the cabins would be "a home away from home” for visitors.
Five one-bedroom cabins, one two-bedroom cabin and one studio with wheelchair access are on offer.
"They've all got water views,” Mrs Banks said.
"One of the comments we got from people who stayed on the weekend was they're...private, because you can't really see each other, even when you're out on your verandah.”
The cabins "bring a bit of luxury”, as they're designed as stylish apartments more common in an urban setting.
"They've got everything you could want...a mixmaster and slowcooker in the kitchen, everything you could possibly use.”
Mr and Mrs Banks had been commercial painters in Brisbane, painting high-rise buildings before moving to the Granite Belt.
They met the former owners of their property at a work Christmas party in Diamondvale and later bought the land they now have cabins on.
Local builder David Sceats had built the seventh cabin and 18 other businesses were among those Mrs Banks thanked for their "brilliant support”.
"There were quite a few local people that helped out,” she said.
"We tried to support local...if we support them then they'll support us. We try and do that, we try and promote as much local business as we can.
"If there's not much local business there, there's not much to attract people to us.”
