New Kia Rondo has seven seats and surprising style

KIA is aiming to lure people away from fuel guzzling large SUVs and people-movers with its new Rondo.

The new Kia Rondo has reached showrooms starting from $29,990 for the base model petrol variant, with the diesel costing an additional $2500.

Petrol models come with a good specification list across Si, SLi and Premium grades. The diesel is only available in Si and SLi trim.

Kia's new Rondo is being branded a game-changer in a relatively new segment.

There are no real competitors, apart from Toyota's hybrid Prius V, but Opel is set to launch its Zafira later this year.

The challenge will be to lure Australians away from an obsession with SUVs. And the Rondo could be half a chance. It offers an impressive features list, seven-seat flexibility in a package which looks more like an elongated wagon than a people-mover.

Average fuel consumption for the 2.0-litre  petrol is 7.9 litres/100km, while the diesel sips 6.4 litres/100km.

Petrol 2.0-litre four-cylinder DOHC generating 122kW @ 6500 rpm and 213 Nm @ 4700 rpm.

Diesel 1.7-litre four-cylinder  DOHC generating 100 kW @ 4000 rpm and 320 Nm @ 1750-2500 rpm.
