Geitz ready for any challenge

ALLORA netballer Laura Geitz expects tough opposition from New Zealand star Irene van Dyke if she makes the Australian team for next month's series against the Silver Ferns.

As reported yesterday, Geitz is in the Australian Diamonds squad of 22, which will be reduced to 15 after next week's camp in Canberra.

“Irene is the best goal shooter in the world and a fantastic competitor at the top of her game,” Geitz said.

In her short international career, Geitz at goal keeper has matched it with Van Dyke.

With a squad of 22, coach Norma Plummer has plenty of options for the team of 15.

Geitz recognises that goal keeper Bianca Chatfield and goal defence Mo'onia Gerrard are the Diamonds most experienced defenders.

In one international Geitz played, the former Scots PGC College student came on at goal keeper, Chatfield was moved to goal defence and Gerrard to wing defence.

“I take any opportunity to play with our experienced defenders,” Geitz said.

The Diamonds take on the Jamaica Sunshine Girls in the first game in Melbourne on August 8 and then play Jamaica in Sydney and Gold Coast. They then play three games against New Zealand.
