Murwillumbah man pleads guilty to cop shop break-in
A MURWILLUMBAH man has pleaded guilty to breaking into his local police station, just months after another man escaped from custody there.
Matthew Mark Higgins, 36, faced Murwillumbah Local Court on Wednesday, charged with break and enter and malicious damage. He pleaded guilty to both charges.
About 5.30pm Tuesday, May 12, Higgins smashed down the door of Murwillumbah Police Station, which was unattended.
He tipped the contents of a number of drawers onto the floor before leaving the station.
Higgins' bail was continued and he will be sentenced before Murwillumbah Local Court on July 22.
In March, a man was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment after escaping from police custody at Murwillumbah Police Station.
He will be eligible for parole in May next year.
