Murder accused claimed shooting was suicide

THE man accused of shooting Carl Upson in the head at a property near Esk went to police headquarters to hand himself in, a jury has been told.

Jamie Rex Teichmann is on trial for allegedly murdering Mr Upson in December 2010 at a property on Mt Mulgowie Rd.

Officers working at police headquarters in Brisbane in 2010 gave evidence at Mr Teichmann's trial on Tuesday and said the accused murderer told them Mr Upson had shot himself.

The Brisbane Supreme Court was told Mr Teichmann allegedly phoned 000 after the shooting on December 15 and turned up at police headquarters in Brisbane the following day.

He allegedly told a police officer: "I've done something very serious and I want to hand myself in".

The jury heard Mr Teichmann also allegedly told another officer at police headquarters "I think you guys are looking for me. I saw a guy shoot himself. But I didn't shoot him, but I just saw him do it".

Mr Teichmann told police that he was checking his horse's shoes on the property when Mr Upson approached him with two shotguns and threatened to shoot him before pulling the trigger on himself, the court heard.

On Tuesday the jury was also shown video footage police had made at the scene.

In it Mr Upson's body could be seen lying on his back in a pool of blood in a train carriage that had been converted into a home with his arm hanging out the door.

Police also found marijuana seeds at the property, the court heard.

The prosecution claims Mr Teichmann killed Mr Upson and that it would have been impossible for the victim to turn the gun on himself because of the wound position.

The trial is expected to continue until next week.
