Mum's the word for annual event
EVERYONE and their mums are invited along to this year's Stanthorpe Campdraft as organisers prepare a mammoth Mother's Day weekend of action.
The annual campdraft will held at the new arena at the showgrounds from May 11-13.
"The Stanthorpe Campdraft sub-committee are preparing to bring you first class competition on their new first class arena,” secretary Paula Boatfield said.
"The positive feedback we received about the new arena after the show draft was overwhelming. People will be pulling out all stops to get here and compete on our new grounds.
"They are coming for the Granite Belt atmosphere, the safe ground underfoot, the spectator viewing, the food, the beer and the great camaraderie that they always find here in Stanthorpe.”
The committee has agreed to provide a program similar to past years as it caters for all ages and experiences.
"Our junior, juvenile and encouragement drafts all give the younger and more inexperienced riders a chance to experience competition status. Our maiden, novice and open drafts will sort the men from the boys, and the women from the girls,” Paula said.
The campdraft will have a showcase event for all the special mums in town too.
"The Mum's Run is always a crowd favourite,” she said.
"Some other changes we are talking about include involving a jackpot steer competition, expanding the teams draft to encompass more teams and providing arena based entertainment on the Saturday night.”
What's certain is attendees will be looked after. The campdraft sub-committee has been gifted $35,000 grant through the Queensland Government's Department of Liquor and Gaming Revenue. They intend to utilise the monies for upgrades to catering and bar facilities.
"Book it in your diaries to come down and have a look at the action. The committee is sorting out sponsors, prizes, ribbons, and volunteers so you are keen to support this iconic event, it would be most welcome,” Paula said.
