Multimillion-dollar sport hub to create a buzz
A proposal for a new Coast sporting hub could take a major step forward when it is considered by council this year.
Work is continuing on the Honey Farm Sport and Recreation Precinct plan with Sunshine Coast Council spending about $300,000 on planning the precinct in the past 12 months.
The 75ha site near the Sunshine Coast Turf Club is slated for a major sporting hub with the potential for formal and informal sport, turf and hard courts, new creation and event spaces, running and walking trails and a skate park and youth play spaces.
It could also include disc golf, playgrounds and a criterium track.

Stage 1 works at a cost of about $20 million will continue until 2024 and future stages will be delivered in-line with budget availability.
A council spokesperson said council would consider the master plan for adoption this year.

"Significant stormwater and drainage infrastructure is also required and installation has begun to ensure management of stormwater on the site meets future requirements," they said.
The spokesperson said an access road and car park have been built to assist during construction and water service connections are being installed.
The plan was released for community consultation between June and July last year.
"The extensive community consultation found 84 per cent of respondents supported the draft plan," the spokesperson said.
"In response to feedback, council refined the design to include additional carparking spaces.
"Council will continue to update and engage with the community and will work closely with key stakeholders during future detailed planning stages."
The site was purchased in 2011 for the long-term sport and recreation project.
