Mullins and Hinze fend off rivals

DALE Mullins and Sam Hinze are the defending titleholders as all and sundry endeavour to drive and putt them off their top rankings in the Warwick Golf Club Championships over the next two weekends.

Four rounds of 18 holes will be played in all grades for men and ladies today and tomorrow and it will be the same format next weekend.

Mullins won most of the major events for men last year and starts as favourite.

Justin Carr and Matt Penn are two past winners to watch.

Steve Gander has returned to the amateur ranks after working as a professional, so should feature in the placings.

New player Phil Covill has moved from Brisbane.

Wayne Walters and Adrian Murphy are others to watch in the most open A-grade fields for years.

There will be just as much competition in B grade for men.

Hinze is the clear favourite for the ladies after winning the title from previous champion Anna Cox.

As in other years, there is also a lot of interest in the veteran’s championship battles.
